WILLIAM F. GRADY (SGT. RET. CPD)
10/25/1949 - 2/17/2013

of West Warwick, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence, after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband and best friend of the late Christine M. (Warburton) Grady.

Born in Providence, Bill was the devoted and loving son of Mary (Campagnone) Grady of Warwick and the late Arthur J. Grady. He was a graduate of Warwick Veterans High School and attended Bryant University and Roger Williams University, respectively.

After graduating, he joined the Navy and served his country admirably during the Vietnam War. Upon honorable discharge from his military service, he gained employment with the City of Cranston as a Police Officer, which became his true calling for the next twenty years. He retired from the Cranston Police Department in 1992 with a highly decorated career behind him and too many friends to count. He then went on to a second career in the private sector, working as a Loss Prevention Manager with Bob’s Stores. Finally retiring permanently in 2009 as a regional supervisor, he had shined as brightly there as he had with the CPD, making yet more lifelong friends.

Besides his mother, Bill is survived by his only child, a daughter, Tracy E. Grady of West Warwick, whom he loved more than life. They were constant companions these last few years, rarely being seen one without the other. Bill was also a loving brother to James Grady of Cranston, Janet (Grady) Rossignol and her husband Michael of Port Saint Lucie, FL and Kathleen (Grady) Harvey and her husband Charles, of Duxbury, MA. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.

Bill was a kind, gentle and courageous man. He was born with a profound sense of responsibility and served his country and his community with unflinching professionalism and commitment. He loved his family and friends deeply and loyally, never looking for anything in return except perhaps a smile. At the end, he went peacefully with his daughter by his side.

Funeral Service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by interment with military honors at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS are WEDNESDAY MORNING from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
