Funeral service for Doris Ann Short will be 3:00 p.m. Friday March 8, 2013 at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel.
Burial will be in GreenLawn Cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Doris Ann Short departed this life on Monday, March 4, 2013. She was born October3, 1942 in Darlington County. She was the daughter of the late Hebert and Rosa Bell Mellette. She was educated in the public schools of the County and was a 1960 graduate of Butler High School.
Doris Ann grew up in a home where the love of God was taught. She loved the Lord and desired to have a personal relationship with the Master. She joined Jerusalem Baptist Church where she attended.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Wilbert Short of Cheraw, SC. This union was blessed with three loving children.
She was a hard worker inside and outside of the home. She was employed at Sonoco Product Company. She retired on March 31, 1998 after twenty-five years of loyal service as a machine operator.
In her leisure, she enjoyed shopping at Wal-Mart and various malls. She loved sports and attended games played near and far away. When she at home, she sat in her special chair and watched Soap Operas and various Judges. She enjoyed life.
Family and friends were important to her. She and her family were almost inseparable. There was an interdependence and all involved understood the relationship. Because she loved, she was loved.
Surviving to cherish and honor her memory are: her children,Earnestine Short Harkless (Marco Thompson), Anthony Short both of Hartsville,SC, Michael Short (Sylvia Pough) of Lumberton, NC; her grandchildren, Maxamillian Short, Schuyler Short, Quavona Short and Ettay Thompson all of Hartsville, SC; three great grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley Ruffin (Edward), Virginia Graham and Ann Mae Bruce all of Hartsville, SC and Bessie Bolden (Warren) of Philadelphia, Pa; her sister-in-law, Patricia Mellette of Philadelphia, Pa, Shirley Love, Carolyn Short both of Cheraw, SC, Geraldine Hillian (Donald)  of Blythewood, SC and Rachel Morrow (Carl) of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother-in-law,Robert Short (Frances) of Forestville, MD; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Short of Hartsville,SC; nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
